Charles G. G. Schmidt & Co. Adds Mitsubishi MV1200S Wire EDM to Expand In-House Precision Tooling
Charles G. G. Schmidt & Co. is pleased to announce that it is currently installing a new Mitsubishi MV1200S [R] wire EDM, a significant investment in the company’s precision manufacturing capabilities.
A wire EDM (electrical discharge machining) system uses an electrically charged wire to cut conductive materials with extreme accuracy, making it ideal for hardened tool steels, carbide, and intricate profiles that conventional machining can’t easily produce. The MV1200S is Mitsubishi’s best-selling wire EDM and a proven workhorse for precision parts manufacturing.
Key specifications and features:
- Machining range of 15.7″ × 11.8″ × 8.7″ (X/Y/Z), with a U/V taper range of ±2.4″ for angled and contoured cuts
- Positioning resolution of 0.00002″, supporting tolerances down to ± .0001″
- Wire diameter capacity from 0.004″ to 0.012″ for everything from fine detail work to faster production cuts
- A non-contact cylindrical drive system on the X and Y axes for long-term accuracy and reliability
- Automatic wire threading with an annealing system that delivers a wire curl ratio under 10% for dependable, hands-off threading—even on thick workpieces
- A digital power supply with Digital Spark Control and the DMX-S Digital Matrix Sensor, which shapes each spark to reduce wire wear and improve surface quality
- A 19-inch touchscreen control for an intuitive, modern operator interface
- AI-based process technologies that detect obstacles mid-cut and automatically adjust cutting and flushing parameters, holding accuracy on complex geometries and small radii
What it means for our customers
Bringing wire EDM in-house lets Charles G. G. Schmidt & Co. machine hardened and carbide tooling to exacting tolerances under our own roof. That translates into tighter precision on insert pockets and complex cutter profiles, faster turnaround on custom and replacement tooling, and even greater consistency across our line of planer knives, jointer knives, and specialty cutting tools. It’s a direct investment in the quality and responsiveness our customers count on.
Installation is underway now, with the machine expected to be in full production shortly.
